The White Queen introduces Alice to the idea that a person can remember in both directions-that is, remember the future and the past. Alice kindly tries to put the queen right, but though the queen appreciates Alice's help it seems to not make much of a difference. She spends the entire novel in a state of disarray, as she cannot keep track of her shawl and lost her hairbrush in the mess of her hair. Alice finds her extremely perplexing and not particularly queen-like. One of the queens in Looking-glass World.
